I will have many thumbnails on one page (about 35 or more and with updating there will be more thumbnails). I would like the thumbnail show a large image when clicked on. The image will disappear when clicked on a cross at the top right of the page. How do I go about that? Thanks!
David,
It seemed to me the link #2 was the easiest to use. I have the thumbnail selected and under action I checked “Link to file”. I thought the actions palette would open up so I could choose the file I want to open. But nothing opened up. I tried that several times. What am I doing wrong?
oK.Thanks. I selected the thumbnail. I clicked on Action icon in the menu on top of the page. I drew a box around the whole thumbnail. I found the Action palette (in Windows on top of the Freeway Manu) and the info on that little palette had on top Link to File ( I guess becasues I selected" link to file” in the options given once the Action icon is clicked. There was no ScriptyLightbox2 option. Don’t know how to get that) then lower:File, which I was able to select (larger image), below that it says: Name : Download (without an option to change. On the thumbnail there are now blue letters in the left upper corner which say Download. When the page is uploaded or viewed in a browser I can click on that word “Download (but not on the whole image, as I was hoping) and the large file shows up on a white background. There is no little cross in the corner to get back to the page with thumbnails. Only via the back page in browser. I am glad the large image is showing, but I would like to be able to have no word Download on the thumbnail and be able to click on the large image somehow to get back to the thumbnail page.
I could change the word “Download” to Click for Large Image ( I did it to see if it is possible to write anything else there, but it looks like I can’t change the color of the text anywhere…?)
I have my page uploaded under www.moniquerebelle.com

ScriptyLightbox2 is attached to the thumbnail image itself. Draw a regular graphics box, insert the image into it, and then, while the corner handles were showing on the image box, choose Item / Actions / ScriptyLightbox2 from the available options. Then you will immediately see that interface in the Actions palette, and be able to select the full-size image, or if you have already uploaded that image or it is hosted elsewhere, use Link to file to change that picker from an image selector to a URL selector.

ah, I have to draw the graphic image? I am using only HTML, because when I had graphic images the quality was terrible. I asked about that in the Forum and I was told to use HTML. So I redid the while website agin, image by image. It was a lot of work. The images after optymizing are not great anyway, but way better than as gifs (which is what was coming up when I used the graphic icon to import images.) I tried an image with graphic box now and it looks equally not great, but at least the images are now optymized, so maybe it is better. Maybe the images were in gif and looked so bad because I did not optymize them? Over all I don’t mind hard work and doing the thing over an over in order to get it done, but I am running out of time. I have a deadline untill the 27th of the month to have the website ready. This is why I am looking for the easiest solutions. If I must I will redo the whole thing over again into graphic boxes, but I guess I need to start from the scratch, which will take me a long time. Is there a way to do this with the HTML boxes as well?
OK, so going back to your instructions…I did as you advised, drew a regular graphic box, inserted image in it, and kept on clicking on the corner handles to get Item/Actions/ ScriptyLightBox2. But there IS NO ScriptyLightBox2 anywhere on the Actions long list. I looked many, many times…

… as gifs (which is what was coming up when I used the graphic icon to import images.)
But you never came up to the idea, that this picker offers another two alternative methods (png and jpeg) included a control on how to steer the output? Quality is a question of INPUT and an idea how to prepare them regarding size and use.
Another significant point is, with “responsive design”, lightboxed images (if it is possible to say so) are pretty redundant. The idea behind is, that images can be displayed “big” on tall devices and small on mobile-devices without any need of making them “as big as possible” on click.
I stalked another list of you (master-header-footer). I highly recommend to sit down and think about “Structure” and “Content”. Otherwise all of your questions are starting to get embarrassing - for both, the application you use and its audience as well as for you personally.
These are my two cents but having had a need for throwing them the street.
Cheers

And if you could do us a favor. Stop throwing masses of links with all posts. Agreed - the clicks will increase but basically try to reduce them on links referring to a specific problem. More isn’t really in need.

If you go to File>Document Setup you will see different sections that allow you to change the default behaviour of FW.
Under the Graphics Tab you will find the options to set the default output quality of your image file types.
When you import an image into a graphic container FW has a best guess of the file type you are importing and changes the output to suit so generally if you Import a Gif then that is the File type that will be produced. However you do NOT have to stick with FW’s choice and you can change it to suit your own requirements. See pic below. So you can choose the best (for your needs) file type and quality setting.
But I cant help feeling that ‘Thumbnails’ by design are meant to be just that and not be of optimum quality. That way you are sparing your visitors large unnecessary file download sizes unless they do want to view the larger image.
Thomas. Thank you for your advice. I do realize very well my extreme lameness and the sense of embarassement it brings. I apologize you are affected by it. I am doing the best I can. The structure and content of my website is very simple, but it might change as I am learing about new, better ways of building. I have no problem with structure and content, just about the ways reaching my objective, which is this particular website. My questions are mostly about possible ways of getting something done. It turns out there are often several possible ways each time and then there are big roadblocks of my lack of experience. I am very bad with manuals, I do not understand many more technical, particular to the field words words and get very confused. I am learning though and use tutorials as much as I can and try to read them when somebody suggests something - as much as I am able to. The links on the bottom come with my email every time, I have no problem removing them from the emails to the Forum.
I like the idea that images will show as large as the screen of each device allows. Could you please tell me how do I set the responsive design to have the pictures enlarge from certain size to certain size from the fairly large thumbnail to an enlargement? Or if it something I should not ask but find in a tutorial first, could you direct me to the information about it?
Thank you
Monique

You have to have a thumbnail image, but there is no requirement that it not be pass-through. If you draw an HTML box and import an image into it, that is the same as drawing a graphic box and importing the image AND checking the pass-through box. Either one of these construction techniques may be used to create the clickable thumbnail for the lightbox.

Thank you David. I got that. I had the picker set on GIF and did not check other possibilities. Now I know. Thank you for your patience.
My thumbnails are fairly large and of rather good quality, so people do not have to see the large image if they see the image well enough. From my experience the files as they are now are loading really fast and the quality is fine, I can probably even improve it slightly. The large and best possible quality image (definitely within the reason as far as loading time of course) needs to be there if someone wants to see it. It is usually the case if the gallery is interested in showing my work, or anybody else, including a potential buyer would like to see it larger, with more detail. I saw one on somebody else’s website, where the large image was showing up on top of the tumbnails and when clicked in the upper right corner it would go back to the thumbnails. Because I have a deadline with having my images up online within a few days I will probably stop at fairly large thumbnails and add the large images after.
I did use the graphic box for a thumbnail image and applied Action. It behaves the same as html box. On the Action menu I have checked “link to file” and I don’t know how to uncheck it, becasue it looks like I have to choose something from that menu. I could not find from Item>Actions the ScriptyLightbox2…

I tried both ways. I was supposed to do Item>Actions>ScriptyLightBox2. The Item, I assume, is the one on the top menu, (File, Edit, Page, Item…) I went to Actions from there, but the ScriptyLightBox2 was not an option. So I tried, as told on another occasion, to pick an Action from the menu on the work page (HTML, Table, Action…) and I drew the box around the thumbnail image. On left upper corner “Add this button" showed up, so I deleted the Action box and looked in the long list of options, but not the ScriptyLightBox2. However, there was a “link to the file” option, which I clicked. When I picked Action again from the top of the work page and drew the box around my thumbnail the “link to file” showed up on teh top left corner and the Actions palette opened up. I could pick the file which I wanted to open when clicking on the right left corner of thethumbnail image, where it then says “download”. I could not find anywhere “ScriptyLightBox2. I did not see the word “Actions” anywhere else.
