Perch 2

I’m looking forward to seeing what Rachel and Drew have come up with, http://grabaperch.com/perch2/.

First looks and there are some great new features. Multiple user roles, integrated pages app, drag and drop… this really will enhance it.

I wonder if there’s any hidden gems yet to be announced! I suspects so.

Is that multiple user logins? Thats something I’ve been really waiting for. Time to look into this.

Yup! Looks like multiple user logins to specific regions… this is a big feature for one of my sites as it has quite a few people wanting access to the cms - not possible before this release.

I’m having a go with the Perch 2 beta (yes, we’re allowed to discuss it) and there’s now granular control for user-assigned privileges for different roles roles (admin, editor, etc.). Nice.

Speaking as someone who has built a number of these things from scratch, that’s an annoyingly hard thing to do well. I’m looking forward to seeing what they’ve done there.

Cool. Will be good to hear how it goes for you. I’ve not got my hands on the beta, but it’s only a short time before full release so will bide my time

Would be nice if it drilled down further to…

Mr A can edit Region A and that’s it.

Might be hoping for a little too much though.

Interesting.

I was just coming here to ask a question about what small (or free) CMS to use for simpel content management - could be answered here!

But do people still like/recommend PulseCMS?..or WebYapp?

Or any others I should look at?

thanks
Hugh

I was also hoping for a similar level of control but even so, this is a big improvement.

Smallest and easiest for simple updates would be WebYep I think.

Perch is not free (not expensive either), but you do have to get your hands dirty with code editing.

Pulse is also highly recommended on this list.

I suppose they all do things slightly differently, it may be horses for courses.

Really I just need to mark up a page with some editable areas, and have an admin area to manage/update the content.

Can you elect users to edit individual specific pages?

Or just regions site wide?

At the moment, it’s just site wide but it’s something I’m going to suggest since I was hoping for that myself. I don’t know how difficult it would be to implement at this stage of development though.

Pulse is no longer free. They used to have a lite free version.
Webyep now is I believe and a lot of support for its use can be found here.

There might be something else here thats free: http://spyrestudios.com/free-content-management-systems/

One of my bugbears about some of these small CMS is that when you want to insert an image you get a standard dialogue popup which asks for the URL of the phot/image. Errr, well I keep most of my pics and images on my machine, not at an URL - I know hardly anyone who keeps most of their pics online or at a cloud…??

So having an image upload system that lets you ‘browse’ your local machine is vital.

Not sure where Pulse and Perch are with this, WebYep unfortunately has an URL approach.
