[Pro] Background Supersizer graphic size?

Hi,

I am using the background supersizer action but my picture keeps getting cut off when in the background.

Maybe it is too big? So I went into Photoshop and reduced it down to 500 x375 from 1500 x 1025 and no change at all.
Still cut off.

How can I get the picture to show up more in the background?

Thanks!

Barry

I am also getting one picture that has top 1/4 cutoff and then beneath the picture the picture starts again from top (almost like tiled??)

ANother picture is real narrow (doesn;t take up whole screen) but shows the whole length. that picture is 1200x1600

trying to see the pattern here.

so frustrating; I keep changing the dimensions of the picture in PS to things like 1200 x800, 1280x960, 1280x1200
Everytime I change it, the results change. I imagine it has to do with the fact that it is trying to fill the screen. If it cuts off the picture at the top and I shorten the height in PS, that does not necessarily show more picture height as I would think…

Is there a way to get the entire picture to show in screen or no?

I hate this resolution stuff.

thanks!

my screen on my mac is 1440x900

even when I made the image 1440x900 in PS, it still does not show whole entire picture as background image.

hmmm

right now just testing- did not upload.

Is what I see dependent upon the computer resolution you see it with?

Bear in mind that real world testing requires an upload.

I tried the action on my portfolio site here:
http://portfolio.thebigerns.com/ and have since abandoned it in favor of a
purely css solution, only because I’m not in need of the slideshow
behavior. The image is 1600 x 1200 pixels, don’t know if that makes a
difference.

Barry - try a real world test first.

OK Dave, did test…

here is what happened.

On my computer the test looked identical to the preview.

On wife’ same thing.

It is hard for somone to tell which pictures get cut off here but I will tell you to Look at the ONE WITH THE COLORED CLIPS. the red clip on the bottom would not normally be cut of in the picture.

But here is what happened next. I changed my wife;s resolution to 1024x768 and viewed site again and could see all of picture with CLIPS.

http://hoffkids.com/backgroundtest.html

what doe this mean?

by the way the size of the CLIPS picture is …

2048x1536

thanks!

i hope you now to ignore the ugliness of all other stuff on page- this was just a test page for the background picture size.

I really do not understand all of this…

Why would i have to be viewing on small 1024 x768 to see all of a picture that is so large (2048x1536)?

Then when I make the picture small res. that does not help either. so confusing…

You have a few things to consider here

1 - These are bg images. They do not need to be large in either file size or physical dimensions or of great quality.

2 - As bg images is anyone going to know or care if not all the image is shown as long as the important part is there.

3 - Page load/display time is far more important. Keep your file sizes down.

4 - The resolution of 1024 x 768 is naturally going to display all of an image which is 2048x1536 because it is exactly half and directly proportionally scaled.

ok- so in general…

  1. should I make all the bg images the same dimensions?

  2. WHat would you recc that dimension be?

dave, i sometimes still get a black background showing BEFORE the background image displays.

I removed the black background that I had before I started using the bg super action, but it still shows a black background for a quick second.

do you know why?

but it still shows a black background for a quick second.

Page/image load times - instant load of a bg colour, images take longer. Reduce your file sizes and make them progressive jpegs. The supersized.css file defaults to a black background.

I would make my images all the same size and probably 1024 x 768 (or a ratio of 4:3) but reduce the quality considerably.

gotcha- will send you the test link again after I make these. I’ll do just 2 images for the bg for now.
