There could be a transition period when you might want to have a pre-Catalina version of macOS to run Freeway 7 (or other 32-bit software). You could either keep your existing iMac to do that, or you could buy a new machine before Catalina becomes the default macOS for new machines, and keep Mojave on a separate partition or disk.

I think that it may also be possible to run Mojave in VM on a Catalina machine, but you will need to have a Mojave installer if you do that, and Apple might make it difficult for people to download Mojave when Catalina is released.
