Someone suggested that a RapidWeaver specific discussion thread be started. I think that this is a great idea. Let me consolidate a few things from other threads into this one…
Let me introduce myself… My name is Joe Workman. I develop add-ons for RapidWeaver. I have around 140 add-ons available that range from simple youtube embeds to slideshows to full blown online CMS and Blogging solutions. Here are a few URLs that you can use for reference to the solutions that I provide…
I have very limited experience using Freeway. But from the limited use that I have had, I can see that its workflow is completely different than that of RapidWeaver+Stacks.
However, you can indeed make amazing websites with RapidWeaver. I personally prefer the workflow that I and other developers have built around RapidWeaver. That does not mean that its better. Its just different and it “clicks” better with me. I encourage that if you have not looked at RapidWeaver in some time, to please review it again. Maybe it will click with you as well.
Here are a couple of sites that contain galleries of websites that have been designed using RapidWeaver:
I would like to welcome anyone here to get in touch with me personally if you have any questions. I routinely do live hangouts with my community every Friday. Its an amazing way to connect and build friendships. I would be willing to setup a live hangout with any of you either in a group setting or one-on-one. I am in this for the long haul. I love my community and enjoy helping them build amazing websites for themselves and their clients. I would love for any of you to be apart of that.
I have already had a couple of chats with users that have started new projects with RapidWeaver. They are really enjoying it so far. Feel free to post any question that you have about RapidWeaver here and I will be happy to answer them.

I had a discussion with Dan (from Realmac) and Isaiah (from YourHead) and we would like to all offer all Freeway users a nice discount for moving over. They would like to offer all users a 30% and I will gladly sweeten the pie a little more and offer 40% off Foundation.
Yes! You can use your own JS, PHP, HTML, CSS inside RapidWeaver as well. There is nothing stopping you. You can do as little or as much coding as you want. I think that RapidWeaver really has a great balance of drag & drop design and getting down and dirty with code whenever you need to.
Like many others here, I am shocked by the recent news regarding FW, and am looking for alternatives.
I bought a RW7 licence yesterday. So, I loaded it, had a quick look, did a little bit of looking around at your sites and others, and am totally overwhelmed and slightly panicked by what I am seeing!
I am confused by what RW can do, what Stacks are (is?), what is Foundations, etc. etc.??? It looks to me that everything works in templates in RW. Where is the freedom to design and edit images, margins, shadows, responsive in-line designs, etc.
On top of all that, it seems to me that the user needs to pay extra to do anything with RW!
Help!

I would consider the base RapidWeaver product as the base framework. You can definitely build website with it out of the box. RapidWeaver has a vast add-ons system of plugins and themes. The one must have plugin is Stacks from YourHead.
Stacks is an amazing plugin that allows you to build your website like LEGO.
There are a plethora of 3rd party stacks available once you have the plugin. Many free, many paid. I was promoting my Foundation add-on above. It allows you to build you own website from scratch. Instead of using a theme as a starter, you can start with a blank canvas to make your website with.
I know that Freeway users like to use their own code (HTML, JS, CSS). Like I said above, you can definitely do this inside RapidWeaver.
I hope that this helps clarify things.

Thanks Joe, since the earlier post, I have purchased the Stack 3 bundle and your Foundation multi pack bundle!
So, I have spent some time today getting a little bit more familiar. I did have a couple of issues which I contacted your team about, and I’m pleased to say that Robb handled the questions very quickly!
I will likely have some more questions soon!
Thanks again, Iain

Freeway+backdraft+wow+webyep was perfect for me. I’m also looking for the best solution instead Freeway and Currently the RapidWeaver is the most sympathetic.
I have some questions:
Can i use rapidweaver with wow slider, webyep (with loop)?
All google font available in RapidWeaver (with Stacks and Foundation)?
I need fonts that contain national characters. (Hungarian őűáéí), these characters are not in all google fontset.
Thank you in advance the answer.

WOW Slider: There aren’t any add-ons that I am aware of that use the WOW slider. There are a ton of sliders available though. You could obviously add WOW yourself just by adding the code to the page.
WebYep used to be very popular with RW users. I know that a lot less users do use it now but it is possible to use with RapidWeaver. I released a very full featured CMS for RapidWeaver this year.
Google Fonts are already integrated into Foundation. You can obviously add the tags in yourself and use some CSS to assign the font families. I also have a product called Font Pro that is a powerful font management add-on for RapidWeaver.
I hope that this helps out!

I am very impressed by my experience of RW + Stacks + Foundation so far.
My only concern is that it seems to be necessary to spend between $10 and $50 every time I want to do things that are built into FW!
Can Joe or anyone else confirm a couple of things for me?
Am I right in saying, that if I want to put a Google map on my Contact page, then I need to buy a Stack? Also, if I want to have custom font styles, e.g. defining fonts that are on my system but not in the ‘standard’ families, or shadows or spacing, etc. that I have to buy something like Font Pro stack family at $49?

Barry, I am no expert. Just in the learning process. However, the answer to your graphic text question is no, I think, and that is why I asked the question in my last post.
However, like everything else in RW, I’m sure it can be done - at a price.
Re Carousel, if I remember correctly, that is a very basic gallery plugin for FW. I was using WowSlider and, latterly, Exhibeo 2 with FW. Again, there is no out-of-the-box gallery in RW, but WowSlider works with it and there are many more available at a price!
Hopefully, Joe will return to this thread and give us some input.
