Miles better. Really much better.

A few anomalies: on all the sub-menus under the ‘Programs’ menu item,
there’s something wrong just underneath the logo with the birds on the
top left. Something conflicting there, something covering up something
else. On those same sub-pages, your text on the right, above the
picture, is not pushing the picture down when the text is enlarged.

On the Welcome page, the caption underneath the slideshow is wider
than the slideshow. You could either make it smaller text; it’s quite
large at the moment and could easily go down a couple of point sizes,
or you could just have it say the words ‘Our facility’; nothing else
is needed there.

Above the slideshow, the text is graphic text where it could be HTML
text; also, the header above that, where it says ‘Giving Children
Roots and Wings’ is not sufficiently bigger than what’s underneath,
and it’s in a font that hasn’t translated very well; the word ‘Roots’
is very thin and whispy. Why not just use the same font as the
‘Welcome’ on the right side of the page? (And make it HTML text)

About us page: not working like the other pages when text is enlarged,
overflows the bottom graphic. Word ‘Mission’ is underlined and in a
different typeface to, say, the ‘Welcome’ on the Welcome page; should
really match, and be HTML text like ‘Welcome’?

It’s much better than it was

best wishes,

Thank you…

I think I fixed the problem w the bottom graphic on About us… I have
had issues w that… hopefully it is solved.

I fixed most of your suggestions. The only one I can not is the
slideshow on the preschool page. That needs to be layered w the html
box. other wise it will not show. and for some reason my html box is
showing white and going over the slideshow when the color in the
inspector is none… humm

I was having problems w the program pages and the staff title
disappearing underneath roots and wing… I think I fixed it…

Thank you again.

Hi Julie,

Forgive my bluntness, please, but - I have to say that it doesn’t
look all that different from before. I can see some evidence of
things being moved around, but overall the pages have no internal
visual logic; the placement and sizing of elements doesn’t appear to
be done according to a coherent design structure.

Have you had a chance to think about grid structure and aligmnent of
objects? Take another look at the example I posted.

Keith,

I like your bluntness.

I like your example and I did make a grid to line things up… which i
did…

I am sorry I did not look through the words you spoke just at them so
all I did was work on the alignment…

so you are saying there is no “flow” ok. I will work on moving things
around to make them more logical.

http://www.tlchamburg.net

It is marginally better - but I don’t mean flow, I mean structure.
You have specific content elements on each page. They should be
arranged in a logical manner so the page and page contents work
together. The grid is used to help you do this.

Download that example Freeway document.
Look at the grid.
Make one in your own document:

  • Choose Page > Margins and Grids,
set the Left and Right margins to 10px.
    Click OK.

  • Choose Page > Create Guides,
set Columns to 5 and the gutter to 20px. Click the ‘From Margins’ checkbox.
    Click OK.

  • Make sure rulers are showing in your document, then click and drag
a horizontal guide down from the top ruler. Position this somewhere
that’s appropriate for the upper limit of your main page content. See
my example layout for a hint.

Now make your objects snap to these new guides.

Take your page design seriously. Don’t just slap things down and
slide them about without a plan, a structure, and a critical eye.

There are a few things that stand out for me:

I don’t like the colours that you have chosen for the navigation menu - I think they are too harsh and dont work well together. Red against dark blue and light green against yellow - it is not easy to read and I think if I was colour blind it would be a nightmare.

Toddler Room is a disaster - everything on top of each other, text sizes mis-matched, balance wrong and the graphic text “TLC’s Toddler Room Staff” shouldn’t be over 2 lines - never mind that dodgy font! and the show/hides on the Staff names adds nothing. You have the space to spell it out.

Much of that also applies to School-age whose title is School Aged

About Us - The show/hide on Child and Adult Care Food Program is also a mess - if you really want to do it that way put a border on the box and give it a subtle background colour to lift it off the page. I would also be tempted to stick a Google Map on this page - the one you have is barely readable.

I think that once you are away from the first page you could reduce the size of the TLC logo header considerably - it will help balance.

In your Contact Us form - one of the options is Toddler ROom

I think that is enough for just now on top of what others have said.

what do you mean dodgy font? I switched from a graphic box to a html
box… did that change the font?

ok… wine poured, drawing board out

thank you …

Paul,
Your Points are right on…

I am having an issue (that a couple of you have brought up) … .if you
or anyone else has a solution… please…

You have brought up location of the header being too close

I think I fixed that… (maybe) BUT i am having a problem w the photos
on Lt moving - they are unlocked, unlayerd, uncomboed w children -
what else can I do?

IT is funny the staff descriptions - they are aligned w the names…
but yet they pop above or lower - what can i do to fix this?

You mention the tlc - different colors - cant do anything about that -
request of the daycare… I don’t like it either…

Headers - I switched back to graphic items… Seems to fix that
problem. I will look for another font…

Keith,
I am just starting to work w the grids… do not think please I did not
listed last night… I did move a couple of things, but the issues
above are issues that are driving me nuts… because it looked “good”
and inline… then things changed when I did a final upload - and Dave
saw an uglier mess

I have switched back to the test address:

Thank you
