As a picture is supposedly worth 1000 words* I thought that might be

Perhaps, but that doesn’t matter. I’d say we all learn this kind of
thing better by doing rather than reading, but it can be quite hard
if you don’t have working examples that relate to what you’re trying
to do. This should go a little way towards improving that situation.
