Archive Freeway

Hi,

I have been asked to design a WebSite for a local Charity group of which I am a member. Nationally the Charity work with WordPress, of which I have no knowledge. nor yet Windows OS experience. But to avoid Wordpress, this will mean coming back to Freeway/Xway after a near twenty year post-retirement hiatus.

My business Freeway archives seem to cover from Freeway Pro Version 3.5 in 2003 up to Version 6 Pro in 2013. With Freeway 7 installed two or three months ago, plus Xway newly installed a couple of days ago. So far, so good.

But some of my earliest Freeway 3.5 Web designs included multiple Graphic images edited with Fastpack Actions, namely “Buttons”, “Photo Frame”, & “Photo Magic”. I acknowledge that Web Design has moved on just a tad in the last twenty years or so, but I would like to be able to edit Graphic images and Buttons in the same, or a similar way, within either Freeway 7. Or indeed Xway.

I still have these Actions archived within my 3.5 archive, including the original serial numbers/installation codes. So my questions are,

  1. Can these archived Actions be re-installed within Freeway 7.
  2. Or are there up to date Freeway 7 versions available for download?
  3. Or finally, is there an equivalent to Actions available within the Xway App?

Many thanks

Neil C

Hi Neil,

There is some documentation on the Buttons Action and Photo Magic Action.

For Xway, I would use a graphics program (such as Pixelmator Pro) to create web graphics, or I would use CSS to style buttons. There are many CSS effects that you can use, including shadows, gradients, and rounded corners.

Xway doesn’t support “graphic text” or “non-passthrough graphics”. These were useful in the old days of web design (table layouts), but they’re less suitable for modern flexible layouts. There are also accessibility issues with graphic text.
